PREMISE
gotham city: great wealth, astronomical poverty. a history of outrageous people, but otherwise very gritty and very real. it's about ten years after gothatm's dark knight, bruce wayne, passed away, having finally died during vigilante action: he fell from a roof trying to stop a schizophrenic logic and mathematics professor from gotham university. professor edward nygma had been calling himself the riddler, setting elaborate death traps for "bad" people. as people tried to escape the riddler's inventions, edward would deliver complex riddles to the police that would reveal the location of the captive: if you were clever enough. though gotham lost batman, gotham's finest managed to apprehend the riddler. batman's true identity was finally revealed to commissioner gordon, and he, mr. fox and alfred are still the only people alive to know the truth: together, the men staged a crime scene to explain Bruce's death, and the rest of the world remained ignorant of the truth. with both the riddler and batman off the streets, gotham rested and mourned. but over the years, evil has crept back into the city; but over the years, so have other caped...or masked...or uniformed...or armed crusaders. regular people picking up where batman left off, some amateur, some failures, some slowly climbing their way up the ladder to match his skill. the work alone, like the bat did, or in pairs, or even groups. but for every new knight, there seems to be a new foe: criminals, petty, organized, or larger than life, are crawling out of the woodwork. but there seems to be someone out there on their side. over the last two weeks, vigilantes new and old have been getting text messages, emails, phone calls at all hours of the day with locations and information about crimes in progress. sometimes, they get there and fight off the bad guy on their own. but sometimes they get there and find other masked or caped crusaders are already there. someone wants these new knights working together. and it seems like it might just work. knights of gotham is an alternative universe role playing game set in the gotham city established in the christopher nolan batman saga. there are no superpowers. no magic. no mutants. just extraordinary science and people trying to make a difference, for better or for worse. |
