batman? i love batman! can i play [canon character]? short answer: no. sorry guys. knights of gotham is going to be an alternate universe situation: people like commissioner gordon, barbara gordon or various villains might be used as npcs during gameplay, but they will not be available to app. what does the public know about batman? about bruce wayne? it was released that batman was killed during an altercation with the riddler. that night, gordon, fox and alfred came up with a story of an impromptu roadtrip for mr. wayne. bruce was "found dead" a week later, after "returning" from his trip. the story says that mr. wayne fell off his rock climbing wall. only gordon, lucius and alfred know the truth of batman's identity. HA! mod, you are wrong! coleman reese knows who batman is! touche, mon ami. for the sake of the game, mr. reese was killed in a car accident six years ago. just for the sake of knowing- after bruce saved coleman's life, coleman became one of the most hard working and obedient employees at wayne enterprises before his untimely death. what happened to wayne enterprises? to the wayne fortune? wayne enterprises is now under control of lucius fox, though alfred pennyworth is the main shareholder and inherited the bulk of the wayne fortune. large donations were made in accordance to mr. wayne's will. the gcpd received 3.5 million, arkham asylum for the criminally insane received .5 million to be put toward increased security, and 7 million was put toward the funding of the rachel dawes foundation, to help the families of organized (or disorganized) crime victims. superpowers! magic! pseudo science! not in this game! sorry, kids. i love a good mutant game, and nothing gets me going like magic, but this game is strictly baseline humans. even the sciences will only be slightly above average. batman's technologies from the films will be kept canon, but remember: batman had a multibillion dollar corporation at his fingertips, and the best inventor in the world on his side. he also had unusual access to the best ninja training to have ever existed. these are not things your character would have ever had access to. as was stated in the movies, batman is a symbol, and he still is to these people. because of extraordinary circumstances, batman's skills and technologies are an impossible standard. these are regular people who will likely have regular lives to tend to, and probably won't be trust fund babies. this game is so lame! what about the bat family? why aren't you using comic canon? :( thanks for calling me lame, hypothetical applicant. we will, in fact, be utilizing canon characters, storylines and themes from the comics! by putting some focus on the nolan!verse, and essentially making the game AU, the game is open to more applicants. so i pretty much have to play a failboat n00b? no! there are individuals making a name for themselves in the city. maybe they're experts in martial arts. maybe they have quick reflexes and are armed with high powered stun guns. they could have slick costumes with kevlar and spandex, and a witty way with words. you can play someone of extraordinary skill, and even some degree of fame. but there's no batman ii, or someone stepping up to the plate quite like bruce wayne did. but think of how fun it would be to play a failboat n00b! i think i want to play a regular citizen/i don't really want someone in the field. regular citizens? awesome! you don't want someone doing the traditional ass-kicking? get creative! maybe you'll play someone more along the lines of oracle or lucius fox, taking the names for someone who is kicking the ass. or maybe you're a cyber-vigilante, taking down cyber criminals through code and binary. you or a team of people could do something as small as being the most diligent neighborhood watch the world has ever seen, canvassing the city and calling 911 if any suspicious activity is spotted. you don't have to be wearing a mask to be a hero. what year is it? what are the politics like? it's 2020, and for the sake of ease? consider 2020 a mirror of 2010. we have a second black president, mitchel white, and is called the second obama. he's center left and fairly polarizing, and, of course, there's a small faction of old white men who miss "their" america. the country is still heavily divided, politically- or at least the media is presenting it that way. feel free to reference popular pop songs as if they're current. britney spears can be whitney beers, the jonas brothers can be the johnson brothers. feel free to get creative politically and pop-culturally. what you need to know about local politics will be presented in game. if something hasn't been brought up yet, you can come to me and we'll work something out! what's the stance on vigilantes? technically, vigilantism is still illegal. however, there are bigger fish to fry as a gotham cop, and there's a silent truce between vigilantes and the cops. some vigilantes, such as pistol whip and greenman, can be a bit polarizing within the precinct. whether your character is completely pro or vehemently against vigilantism is up to you. but as a rule, vigilantes are just a part of life in gotham city. can my hero have a batarang/super sonic hearing device implanted in his brain/ carry a lightsaber? no. guns, knives, swords, stun guns, pepper spray, tactical baton, crowbar, brass knuckles, hammers, you can have any array of current weaponry at your disposal. you can even have throwing stars or a blow gun, a bow and arrow. you can also have additional gear! night vision goggles, the gear needed for ziplines, gps systems, a radio to some type of headquarters, police radio scanner, nanny cams. this website is just an example of the sort of things your vigilante can have. they're real things, but keep the pricetag in mind. it is doubtful that your character will have access to, or the ability to make, gear more complex than the gear mentioned above. keep in mind that most of these vigilantes are every day people trying to make a difference, not billionaires with cash to burn and a science department at their disposal. can i play a villain?! yes! but not just yet. please go here for more details. why the crap would heroes or villains be online? remember, these people aren't just the night, they have a day job to deal with. and real people? they're online. recently, twenty-five year old barbara gordon overheard a meeting between her father and lucius fox. stubborn and still bitter over her disability (a broken spine, courtesy of the joker), barbara refused to be left out of the fight, and brought some new ideas to the table: a computer genius to the extreme, barbara now utilizes gothamunited.org and the fantastical computer setup in the batcave to facilitate cooperation between these new vigilantes. her codename? oracle. |
